Donating Marrow

A cornerstone of KIC Leukemia's mission is to increase the number of individuals that are registered on the National Marrow Donor Registry and willing to donate marrow to victims of leukemia and other diseases.

We have found through our experience that most people:
a) Don't know how to register to become a marrow donor.
b) Have many misconceptions about how to join the National Bone Marrow Registry.
c) Are afraid of the procedure required to extract their marrow if matched to someone in need.

Registering is simple, there is no blood draw, just a short form to complete and a couple quick swabs of the inside of your cheek.

If you are a match the donation process will be determined by the requirements of the patient requiring the donation, and the consent of you, the donor.

The most common type of transplant currently a peripheral blood (circulating) cell (PBSC) transplants.

Please take some time to read some of the information and links below to find out more about joining the National Bone Marrow Program.
